INTRODUCTION:

As a Staff Software Engineer at Disney+ Hotstar, you'll be at the forefront of developing high-performance systems with highly engaging user interfaces. This role is perfect for someone who is not only technically proficient but also highly creative, with a passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible on the web.

Your primary responsibilities will include designing and building applications that deliver top-notch performance and a seamless user experience. You'll work closely with the engineering team to ensure that applications are optimized for performance and scalability across various platforms, including web and living room devices.

A significant part of your role will involve proposing experiments to gather data that will inform key business decisions. You'll also be responsible for leading projects, ensuring that your team's code, design, and project delivery meet the highest standards of quality and are completed on time.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and Build High-Performance Applications: Develop applications that are not only functional but also highly engaging, with a focus on delivering a superior user experience.

Optimize Applications for Various Platforms: Work with the engineering team to ensure that applications perform optimally across web and living room devices, providing a seamless experience for users.

Propose Experiments and Initiatives: Use data-driven approaches to propose experiments that will help improve key performance metrics, ultimately delivering high value to the business.

Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with other teams within the company to define, design, and implement new features that enhance the user experience.

Serve as a Functional Lead: Take full responsibility for your team's code, design, and project delivery, ensuring that everything is done to the highest quality and completed on time.

Mentorship and Guidance: Provide mentorship to junior developers, helping them to grow and develop their skills.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be successful in this role, you must possess a strong technical background, particularly in JavaScript and web technologies. Here are the key qualifications required:

Proficiency in JavaScript: You should have extensive experience with JavaScript, with a deep understanding of how browsers and video playback work.

Design and Architecture Patterns: A solid understanding of design and architecture patterns is crucial for this role, as you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining scalable applications.

Experience with Front-End Frameworks: Familiarity with frameworks such as React and AngularJS is essential, along with an understanding of why these frameworks are necessary for modern web development.

Open Source Contributions: While not mandatory, contributions to open-source projects are a big plus and demonstrate your commitment to the developer community.

Version Control Systems: Proficiency in using Git or other version control systems is essential for managing code efficiently.

Video Fundamentals: Familiarity with key video fundamentals and experience with the Shaka player will be beneficial in optimizing applications for video content.
